For my second semester of ceramics and first ever art show, I decided to create a tea set, making a teapot, two plates, and two cups. I started by creating the teapot which is a multi-step process requiring the creation of 3 different forms. I started with the main form which is the body of the pot, throwing it on the wheel and messing up many times until finally reaching the form I was looking for. After that I created both the spout on the wheel and formed a handle using handbuilding techniques, attaching them to the body. Following that I made two simple cups on the wheel and two plates following the cups. The name for this project comes from the fields of Texas where bluebonnets cover land bordering long highways. The flowers are a warm blue and an easy white. On my pieces I used the combination of blue and white to create the same sense of rolling fields that I once saw on a warm summer day in Texas. I can’t wait to take the skills I have gained this semester with me into Ceramic Studio Workshop in the fall.
